I am terrified of going to bed without a book-on-CD-or-tape playing. I am worried that if I cannot hear the narrator's dulcet tones, I will be killed in my sleep. I know this is irrational but, when I was very young I believed that the sound of the reader scared away monsters under the bed, and this has never entirely gone away.
